Arrest reports, booking details, and field sobriety documentation are all held by the Sheriff. The Illinois Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to request these records in writing. Contact the Sheriff's records division to submit a FOIA request.
Keep in mind that the Sheriff holds arrest records, not court records. The Circuit Clerk has the case file with charges, plea, and sentence. If you need a full picture of a DUI case from the initial stop to the final court order, you need to contact both offices separately.

DUI Offenses Under Illinois Law
Illinois makes it illegal under 625 ILCS 5/11-501 to drive with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher, or while impaired by any substance. The first DUI is a Class A misdemeanor. The second offense stays a misdemeanor but comes with harsher conditions. A third DUI is a Class 4 felony. From there, each additional conviction can be charged as a Class 2 felony.
When someone is arrested for DUI in Christian County, the Statutory Summary Suspension process under 625 ILCS 5/11-501.1 begins almost immediately. Refuse chemical testing and the suspension lasts 12 months. Fail and it is 6 months. The driver has 90 days to file a petition in circuit court to challenge the suspension. If not challenged, or if the challenge fails, the suspension takes effect and shows on the Secretary of State driving record as a separate entry from the court case.
Under 20 ILCS 2630/5.2, DUI convictions cannot be expunged or sealed in Illinois. This is one of the most significant long-term consequences of a DUI conviction. The record stays with the Illinois State Police permanently, and any authorized criminal history search will show it regardless of how much time has passed since the conviction. This applies equally to misdemeanor and felony DUI convictions.
ISP Criminal History Records
The Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification maintains a statewide criminal history database that includes DUI convictions from all 102 Illinois counties, including Christian. If you want to see your own record, use the ISP My Record portal at isp.illinois.gov/BureauOfIdentification/MyRecord to view and print your own Illinois criminal history.
For authorized third-party access, courts and attorneys use the CHIRP system (Criminal History Information Response Process). The ISP Bureau of Identification phone number is 815-740-5160. Their main page is at isp.illinois.gov/BureauOfIdentification. Detailed criminal history information is also available at isp.illinois.gov/BureauOfIdentification/CriminalHistory.
The ISP Bureau of Identification page explains how to submit a criminal history request and what to expect in response, including how DUI convictions are recorded.
Secretary of State Driving Records and Reinstatement
The Illinois Secretary of State maintains a driving abstract for every licensed Illinois driver. This document shows license status, any suspensions or revocations, and DUI-related driving history. A standard driving abstract costs $20 and can be ordered online at ilsos.gov.
If a Christian County driver's license was revoked after a DUI conviction under 625 ILCS 5/6-205, reinstatement requires a formal hearing with the Secretary of State. The SOS Office of Administrative Hearings manages that process. Full details are at ilsos.gov/departments/administrative-hearings.html. The SOS Driver Analysis Section can be reached at 217-782-2720 for questions about license status and hearing scheduling.
The ISP criminal history page shows how DUI convictions are recorded and retained in the statewide database maintained by the Illinois State Police.
DUI Evaluations and License Reinstatement
Before any Illinois driver can petition to reinstate a revoked license after a DUI, a formal DUI evaluation is required. A licensed evaluator assesses risk level and recommends treatment or education. The report is submitted at the SOS reinstatement hearing and is a non-negotiable part of that process.
Licensed evaluators in the Taylorville area can be found through the Illinois Department of Human Services directory or through referrals from the Circuit Clerk's office or your attorney. Courts in the 4th Judicial Circuit may also order an evaluation as a condition of sentencing before the case is formally closed. Check with the Christian County courthouse or your legal counsel about what is required in your specific case and how the timing works with the SOS process.
